In regard to the celebrations we still celebrate, Passover is very different. Today, Passover is often done at church with a small sip of wine or grape juice and a morsel of bread. Whereas in Old Israel you had to sacrifice a lamb that has to be approved by the priests and then take the slaughtered meat to be eaten at home. Followed by eating unleveled bread, used to represent sin, and drink four cups of wine. Along with other symbolic foods used to represent parts of the Exodus story. In contrast, I believe they are very similar because Christians today created their worship habits through the foundations of Old Israel.
For instance, we still congregate in a church which I believe is similar to the Tabernacle. The church is used as a means for Christians to congregate and worship God, just as the Tabernacle was once a meeting ground between the Priests and God.
However, the biggest difference between the church is that all are welcomed to come and celebrate God. Through Old Israel and the Levites, we also now have worship music. I believe the Levites set the foundation of today’s worship leaders. Worship leaders are the ones responsible for setting the tone of worship and leading the congregation in worship to God. Although we still celebrate religious festivals like Passover, we also celebrate Easter, Lent, Pentecost and Christmas. 2. From my understanding of the readings and power points, the themes of worship in Old Israel were through animal sacrifices to bring thanks and joy to God or seek forgiveness.
In my experience, I do just this through worship. Worship allows Christians to speak to God through their praises to him. This joyous worship is similar to the Communion Offering. Another form of worship is that of remorse, when we feel we’ve done wrong and are seeking forgiveness. I can compare this to the Sin Offering of Old Israel. The only difference is that I believe God is always with us. Since he is, we can worship at any time. Through this belief, we don’t necessarily have to be at a church to feel his presence or speak to him. Whereas in Old Israel, you had to be a priest as the Tabernacle.
