In today’s society, It Is almost impossible to go a day without experiencing some form of deception, whether It being hearing about It, seeing It, or experiencing It first hand. In William Shakespearean ‘Hamlet’, deception Is a major theme throughout the story. In the play, the author portrays deception as a necessary tool to allow Hamlet and Claudia to accomplish their goals. Claudia and Hamlet use deception to gather evidence and for personal gain. Claudia is deceiving everybody in his life. He deceives all the people around him guarding his brother’s death: ” Oh its true too true!
How smart a lash that speech doth give my conscience! The harlot’s cheek, beautified with plastering art. Is not more ugly to the thing that helps its than is my deed to my most painted word. O heavy burden! ” (3. 1 50-55) Claudia is feeling guilty that he killed King Hamlet which was his brother. Also Claudia deceived Reactants and Guilelessness by telling them Hamlet is being shipped to England because he has gone mad and he has to calm down, but really he is sending him to be killed: ” Our sovereign process, which imports at full, by letters continuing to that effect, the present death of Hamlet, Do it, England. (4. 3 64-66) Claudia is lying to Restaurants and Guilelessness because he wants Hamlet to be killed and that is one of his goals. Claudia uses deception to allow Hamlet to be killed which Is a personal gain for the king. Lastly, Claudia uses deception to try and kill Hamlet again for his own personal gain: ” I’ll have prepared for him a chalice for the nonce, whereon but sipping, if he by chance escape your venom stuck, our purpose may hold there. ” (4. 7 155-157) Claudia poisoned Hamlet’s winning chalice because he wants Hamlet dead.
Claudia deceives every one because nobody knew except for him and Alerts. Overall, Claudia is very deceptive character and he does this to gather evidence and for personal gain. Hamlet is the master of deception. He uses it all the time to gather evidence and also for personal gain. Hamlet is very creative in the ways he uses deception.
