Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement Assignment Details:

Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

Personal worldview forms an important part of a person’s life at it represents the beliefs and assumptions that they have relative to the world around them. These notions are mostly influenced by the religious, spiritual and cultural environments that one interacts with throughout their lives. As an individual therefore, I believe that there is as Supreme Being called God who created me to fulfill a specific purpose on earth. This belief is accentuated by the fact that I participate in prayers on a daily basis before and after each shift as well as validated by the miracles that I have seen happen in my life and those of my patients. Indeed, I believe that God is the standard bearer of doing good deeds in this world and this should be reflected in one’s life as regards caring for others since we are all created in His image. Moreover, the spirituality of a person also plays a significant role in formulating their worldview. Given that my worldview is powered by the belief that God had a purpose of caring for the sick for me, I know that the Spirit that stays inside of man is greater than the one on the outside. As such, this allows me to love the Lord with all my strength and my heart so as to gain his favor in achieving my purpose. As mentioned in theological teachings, spirituality forms an important cog in the worldview that a Christian will hold in their lives. Lastly, a worldview will not be complete without the presence of a cultural element. My Christian community and friends that I was raised with have had a profound impact on my personal worldview. Since childhood, I have known nothing but the need to aid the sickly and the less deserving in the community irrespective of their age, race, or gender.  That such a mixed society stayed together in harmony also influenced my belief that we should love one another since each one of us is created in the image of God, something that is important when one pursues a career in the profession of nursing.

A personal worldview and its articulation is essential in allowing one to formulate personal nursing practice philosophy and enhancing their influence on both patients and industry. Personal worldviews contain aspects that guide one’s choices in life (Kim, 2020). These perspectives enable people to understand their lives and world. They also help them determine their perception of reality (Sitzman, 2018). Further, a worldview guides an individual’s ethical and moral beliefs and choices. Based on these components, individuals can integrate cultural, religious and spiritual elements when responding challenges and opportunities in life. The essence of this essay is to describe my worldview and its impact on my future practice.

Personal Worldview

My personal worldview is based on my religious beliefs and faith, which is Christianity. As a Christian, nursing is a calling and nurses are committed to serving people and their communities. Nursing is concerned with wholeness and healing of individuals in pain and suffering from different conditions. Nursing involves the obligation and duty to apply attained knowledge and skills in care to relieve others from distress and pain. Nurses have a duty to care for large patient populations by motivating them and showing their dedication to improving quality of life (Kim, 2020). Nursing is about being selfless and showing intrinsic inspiration to serve and care for people. Nurses are aligned, right from training, to appreciate and demonstrate a shift in character to benefit professional and clinical practice. As such, my worldview informs my approach to patient care situations and directs my principles and ideas in care provision. The perspective also concurs with my attitude to caring for patients, their families and populations that I serve in communities.

Nurses encounter complex situations in their efforts to deliver care in an increasingly diverse patient environment and their perception of a patient needs is essential. Further, one should ensure that they attain personal growth to provide holistic care for patients that require help by developing human linkage, establishing trusting relationships and respecting people’s beliefs in healthcare and wellness (Lam & Schubert, 2019). Nurses should give these individuals hope and utilize the knowledge and skills to enhance quality of life for those suffering. Nurses should integrate spiritual elements into practice of care as an essential way of helping patients to attain healing.

  1. Choose a specific nursing theory that is most in line with your personal philosophy of practice and approach to patient care and discuss the similarities. Explain how the nursing theory reinforces your approach to care.
  2. Include in your explanation a specific example of a past or current practice and how your worldview and the nursing theory could assist you in resolving this issue.
  3. Finally, explain how your worldview and the nursing theory will assist you in further developing your future practice.

Worldview and Nursing Personal Statement SAMPLE

Nurses provide their professional care to those in need with guidance from their worldviews. According to Butts and Rich (2018), worldview refers to the set of human assumptions and beliefs that determine the interpretation and explanation of experiences. It is perceived as a social construct since the interactions that one has in their societies influence it. Nurses often work with patients and providers from diverse backgrounds. The diversity implies that they need to understand the manner in which their worldview can influence the nature of care they provide to individuals from diverse backgrounds from theirs. It therefore implies that nurses should demonstrate competencies in ensuring that their worldviews do not affect adversely the nature or quality of care they give to their patients. Consequently, this research paper is a reflection of my worldview. It examines various aspects related to it that include my religious, spiritual, and cultural elements that influence my practice. It also examines a nursing theory that relates to my worldview and the ways in which it will assist my future development as a nurse.

My Personal View

I believe that every nurse has a unique spiritual, religious, and cultural belief that guides his or her personal and professional practice. The religious belief that guide my practice is that what do and observe guide my practice. I believe that there exists truth in what I see and do. As a result, I aim at ensuring that the things that I do protect the rights and needs of the others. I also ensure that my behavior is in alignment with my professional regulations. It is true that nurses provide care to patients from diverse religions. I acknowledge the existence of the various religions, including their religious practices, values and beliefs. I also provide my care with a focus on ensuring that these aspects are protected in the process. However, I strongly believe that it is through science that these aspects related to their beliefs of the patients and others are met. From this assertion, I perceive myself to consider science to be my religion rather than the religious practices that others believe in in the world. I value the scientific innovations that aim at improving the experiences and outcomes of care for the patients.

Therefore, it should be noted that while I believe in science, it does not affect the care that I give to the patients since I value and respect theirs in my professional practice. I also believe that nursing is a caring process. The nurse uses their knowledge and existing resources to ensure that the needs of the patient are met in an efficient manner (Butts & Rich, 2018). Further, I believe that the provision of care to those in need entails the consideration of the patient as a whole being. This includes examining the factors that influence their recovery and response to the care. Consequently, I strongly advocate the consideration of the manner in which environment, health status, and approach to care influence the health and wellbeing of the patient. Topic 5 DQ 1

During this program, you will complete an evidence-based practice project addressing a problem, issue, or concern in your specialty area of professional practice. Consider an area in your specialty that you believe needs improvement. Which nursing theories could you apply to this problem? Why is this the best theory?

Re: Topic 5 DQ 1

Delivering excellent quality of service and helping vast amounts of patients and making a difference, I believe, is every health care professional vision. Unfortunately, challenges affecting the quality of care still arise. As a new care coordinator in the surgical area, a subject requiring improvement in the surgical setting is the need for surgical site infection prevention. Although the strict implementation of protocols and required guidelines are set by state or federal regulatory agencies, surgical site infections still remain an issue leading to post-op patients complications and sometimes even death. Therefore, the need for competent nursing practice and clinical expertise is absolutely essential to effectively support the change process on improving outcomes and bring overall success. Lippitt’s seven steps change theory could definitely be utilized in helping with this particular issue. The emphasis is on using practical communication skills, outlining problem-solving approaches, and establishing feedback. This method uses a democratic style of leadership concerned to identify or diagnose the problem, incorporating a well-detailed plan. The change theory adopts a similar model to the nursing process involving systematic phases of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Mitchell, 2013).

For this reason, the concept can be connected to surgical site infection prevention. The change theory can be used to revise the existing surgical site prevention methods, outlining the problems, and use systematic change phase strategies to prevent surgical site infections, ensure patient safety and positive outcome. I think this model is beneficial to patient outcomes and can be applied in this area of specialty as surgical site infection continues to be a key point of concern. For example, in the assessment phase, risk factors associated with surgical site infections will be recognized and addressed. The following steps are to propose the action necessary to implicit change and reevaluate the implemented plan, to determine if the goal was reached. This theory is aimed to help nursing professionals in daily practice increasing awareness in their decision making, recognizing and eliminating potential problems. Application of this theory may be especially useful when newly evidenced-based research suggests changes to the current practice that should be adopted as a best practice to improve patient safety and outcome.

Nursing philosophy that reflects one’s personal worldview

Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, in my opinion, most corresponds with my own personal perspective. As a Christian, I think my life should be dedicated to serving God. Although I have not been gifted with the opportunity to serve God directly as a member of the clergy, I can fulfill the expectation of service by engaging patients in nursing care. Caring is a crucial prerequisite for successful nurses, according to the notion, because it guides them in exhibiting kindness and concern for patients while continually striving for the best treatment outcomes. Personal Statement on Worldview and Nursing Process Patients are a vulnerable population that want nurses to act in their best interests at all times. I am determined to deliver the finest possible services to my patients since I have a caring mentality and disposition (Butts & Karen, 2018; Huff, Kline & Peterson, 2015) Personal Statement on Worldview and Nursing Process

The theory’s eight curative factors have notably influenced me. The ability to embrace my patients so that they believe I have altruistic intentions for engaging them and delivering care is the first curative factor. This aids the patients’ attitudes and treatment responses. The second aspect is being motivated to provide the level of care that patients require. The third aspect is to foster connections that are based on trust, care, and assistance. The fourth component is to build trust by being culturally aware and accepting individual ideas. The fifth key is to practice forgiveness while focusing on continuous improvement even as errors are repaired. Personal Statement on Worldview and Nursing Process Integrating current evidence to improve professional practice is the sixth factor. The seventh aspect is attempting to strike a balance between meeting one’s own needs and those of others. Co-creating a healing environment that respects human dignity is the eighth factor. The ninth aspect is attending to the patients’ basic bodily, spiritual, and emotional needs. The fourth step is to be open to ideas outside of science, because science does not have all of the answers (Butts & Karen, 2018). Personal Statement on Worldview and Nursing Process

How will nursing theory and worldview aid in the development of future practice?

Watson’s Theory of Human Caring is in line with my Christian worldview and will aid me in establishing future nursing practice. They’ve taught me to be more patient and accepting of the fact that I don’t know everything. Even though I deliver professional nursing services, I am aware that circumstances, expectations, knowledge, and other contextual factors limit my ability to do so. As a human being, I believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. We should treat people with the same respect and decency with which we would want to be treated in a similar situation. I recognize that in the nursing care environment, human relationships are critical, and that healing becomes incidental as caring takes center stage. I will constantly aim to give the greatest possible care for my patients, ensuring the best possible care results and furthering the Christian expectation of living as God commanded (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014). Personal Statement on Worldview and Nursing Process

My worldview and theories enable me to make a difference in my community by allowing me to make rational and ethical judgments. They aid in my affirmation and protection of people as God’s creation. Furthermore, they enable me to live a genuine life by revealing my thoughts, attitudes, and feelings. I have a compassionate disposition, and I believe that the idea, together with my Christian perspective, has allowed me to confirm my decision to pursue a nursing career. The combination of these factors has made me feel that my job is fulfilling (Cherry & Jacob, 2013). They’ve also inspired me to work harder to achieve more clout in order to effect policy improvements. Experience and education will help me develop clout. Experience will enable me to get more familiar with nursing principles, particularly how to make the best decisions possible in order to avoid conflicts between my values and what society expects of me. Education will expose me to new nursing concepts that will enable me to better serve my patients and the community (Iwasiw, Andrusyszyn & Goldenberg, 2019). Overall, my worldview and nursing theory have reinforced my idea that nursing is the greatest career choice for me, and they have inspired me to pursue a career in the field. Describe how the role of advanced registered nurse transformed over time. Consider shifts in scope and expectations in the 20th and 21st centuries. In what ways will the advanced registered nurse role and responsibilities continue to evolve and emerge as the American health care system changes?

You can read chapter 1 & 2 of Advanced Practice Nursing: Essential Knowledge for the Profession, 3rd ed. Susan M. Denisco, et all

Role of an Advance Registered Practice Nurse

The nursing profession is no exception to change. To have an effective and functional healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of advanced nurses and other health care workers must be redesigned well to meet the ever changing population. The scope of an advanced registered practice nurse has changed overtime. The traditional level of nursing practice is unable to meet the needs of the current increased population (DHANDAPANI & L G, 2020). The United States of America has almost four million registered nurses in different cadres and specializations. This paper helps determine the transformational journey of the nursing profession through the 20th and 21st centuries.

There exists a challenge in the management of chronic diseases in the United States, due to the new healthcare laws. There has been a radical change in the roles and expectations of an advanced of a advanced registered nurse. Currently, they are tasked to manage chronic conditions, disease prevention and wellbeing of the people. They also conduct primary prevention and screening, secondary prevention and tertiary level management to restore normalcy and functionality.

Education and technology have contributed much in the transformation of the nursing profession. Advanced nurses will be proficiency in information, data collection and analysis due to the due to technological advancement. The information will be used to predict future health burden and illness. Therefore, advanced nurses have embraced evidence-based research to solve clinical problems in the medical field (Kaasalainen, 2017).

In future, baccalaureate nurses will match into great leadership and take up positions to lead bigger hospitals and other health organizations to bring change by implementing new evidence-based ideas. Leadership and advocacy is the new expectation that advanced registered practice nurses should take and to improve staff and patient welfare

I conclusion, the nursing profession has taken a lot of strides in moving from one stage to another trough the years. APRNs have taken up roles in the management of chronic disease, disease prevention and screening. They also have taken the responsibility of advocating and leadership to improve staff and patient wellbeing.

Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

Personal worldviews are essential for nurses to formulate their personal philosophies of practice and positively impact patients and the nursing profession as well as the healthcare industry. A personal worldview entails the principles that guide one’s decisions and actions in life. A worldview allows one to make sense of their life and the world and determine how they perceive reality (Butts & Karen, 2018). Additional, these principles guide ethical and moral beliefs and actions while enabling one to integrate different aspects of religion, culture and spiritual wellbeing and responding meaningfully to challenges and opportunities in life. The essence of this reflection paper is to describe my worldview and the nursing theory that impacts my practice.

Personal Worldview

Nursing in my worldview, which is Hindu, is a calling to serve humanity based on nature and the need to do good in the world. Hindu worldview believes in reincarnation of the soul to expand Brahman’s work. Each soul is pure and held back from its reabsorption into Brahman by the karmic effects of one’s actions (Thompson, 2017). As a practicing Hindu, I believe in Karma which entails doing good and being faithful to “dharma” or my responsibilities in life, especially in my family and community. Karma teaches self-control and non-violence as high values and moral virtues that none should depart from in their duties and obligations. Hinduism places importance on dharma or the proper way of life (Brown, 2020). The implication is that as a practicing Hindu and nurse, I must ensure that I take my duties seriously and live the proper way so that karmic effects lead to the reincarnation of my soul in the next life as essential person.

Nursing involves the application of acquired knowledge and skills in care to relieve patients from pain, suffering and distress. Nursing is about taking responsibility for continual growth in human connection, developing character and showing compassion (Butts & Karen, 2018). As highlighted by my worldview, especially the concept of karma, nurses need to do good and demonstrate positive values as they handle the broken parts of their patients’ lives. As a nurse, one must address any personal weakness and work towards individual changes and growth to offer effective care to patients.

Being kind to patients, caring for them, having an ear for them and understanding their pain and demonstrating concern, genuine love and compassion lead to more healing than the use of medications and other interventions. Personal growth and having principles based on one’s worldview are essential in provision of holistic care for those who require help by developing connection, trusting relationships and respect to individuals’ beliefs in healthcare and offering hope to enhance quality of life of the suffering patients and their families.

Nursing Theory or Model

Nursing is about caring for humanity and communities with the aim of serving them to attain better and quality care. As nurses, we care for patients and believe that we have a duty to ensure that they get better. Therefore, the most appropriate nursing model based on my personal philosophy and worldview is Jean Watson’s caring model. Watson’s model is founded on the principle that by virtue of taking care of a patient, the nurse gets into their life space and spiritually to associate with their condition. Consequently, the nurse develops and attachment with the patient at deeper spiritual and emotional levels (Grinspun & Bajnok, 2018). The model centers on holistic approach to care than treatment plan and pathology. Watson’s model asserts that while a disease can be cured, illness may persist as health is not attained without effective caring.

The primary similarity between Watson’s model and my personal worldview in nursing is that the two advocate for better and positive care which does not focus on elimination of disease alone but also addressing the needs of a patient in a holistic manner (Wei et al., 2019). The two perspectives advocate for provision of health care by getting into the deeper levels of connection with the patient at the spiritual level. My worldview, especially karma, advocates for doing good since I will only live to account for my deeds in the next life. Therefore, I must develop therapeutic interactions and relationships that lead to hope, trust and propagation of positive beliefs towards healing and wellness.

The theory reinforces a holistic approach to care through its main concepts that include carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship and the caring occasion. The carative components offer specific guidelines which align with the core part of caring and promotion of quality care. A transpersonal relationship involves the demonstration of a positive attitude towards care and the integration of religious and social components (Sitzman, 2018). The caring occasion illustrates love-focused interaction between individuals which involves authentic sharing of experiences that widens one’s perspective in health practice. As such, through these aspects, the nursing practice profession attains resilience in provision of patient care and reinforces appropriate models in care delivery.

Example in Practice

Mental health cases are usually ignored in the community and many would think that at this coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, state and federal health agencies would prioritize such needs. Many individuals with mental health issues are neglected and even those facing the increased disruptions from the pandemic have not been spared the neglect and limited access to healthcare services (Pfefferbaum & North, 2020). I have encountered many patients who come to our facility and seek medical attention but a closer analysis and assessment demonstrate that many are in need of mental health services due to the effects of Covid-19 pandemic. I recall this particular patient who was neglected by providers in our facility after they realized that perhaps he was suffering from depression and anxiety as a result of losing his job and one of his friends to Covid-19 disease. The negative attitude that the patient received from nurses and other provider was disheartening if not outright, uncalled for since he required attention.

In this case, my worldview and the nursing model helped to do good by resolving the issue when I established his needs. I called a psychiatrist after the normal assessment and the patient started attending sessions to help him deal with his problems. He showed his gratitude one day when he came to thank me. I believe I did my part as expected by karma.

Future Practice

My worldview in nursing practice and the nursing theory demonstrate the need for nurses to center on patient-focused care and enhance their understanding of their needs. In this case, these models will help to develop a patient-centered and evidence-based practice philosophy guided principles learned from both. I will strive to offer better care and consider a patient as a critical part of my nursing practice. I will enhance my proficiency in cultural care and ensure that I get knowledge and skills to enhance quality care provision. Watson’s model focuses on maintenance of a healing environment that centers on humanistic approach of care (Watson & Woodward, 2020). Therefore, this approach aligns with my personal worldview and would be fundamental in helping become a better nurse for patients.

Conclusion

Personal worldviews are essential for nurses to develop effective and patient-centered care philosophies based on principles that align with their care and nursing practice. As demonstrated by this reflection, nurses can adopt better approaches when they possess principles and worldviews that are appropriate to their personal beliefs. The reflection illustrates the need for nurses to conceptualize their approach to care and how it impacts their overall care delivery.

Re: Topic 8 DQ 1

The three organizations of interest are the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). The NSNA dedicates the organization to the development of future nurses as they follow their educational path towards a career in nursing (National Student Nurses’ Association [NSNA], 2021). Additionally, the association provides scholarships to undergraduate students to complete their degrees. NSNA members can join their university and state nursing organizations and participate in leadership activities. The NSNA has biannual meetings that provide information relevant to current nursing, health care, and legislative issues (NSNA, 2021). The AACN represents nurses dedicated to academia (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2021). It establishes and implements educational standards for nursing students at any level of nursing education. The AACN guides nurses toward improving health care. Nurses are supported by the AACN in their education, research, and practice. The membership comprises nursing schools, faculty, and students (AACN, 2021). ASPAN is the organization that represents perianesthesia nursing. The group sets the standards of care and clinical guidelines for the care of patients in the preoperative and postoperative settings (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses [ASPAN], 2021). The society provides membership that includes seminars, webinars, reviews for certification, and a journal dedicated to perianesthesia care. New and current information is provided along with legislation that impacts the clinical areas of care. The organization encourages certification and offers reviews at various locations in the country (ASPAN, 2021). All three organizations have stated in some form that they are committed to nursing education and improving the care of each patient. This is my goal in furthering my education. I hope that my clinical knowledge will serve each patient well. I would also like to teach in order to produce nurses dedicated to professional improvement that serves our patients and communities.

RESPOND HERE (150 WORDS, 2 REFERENCES)

Hello Camille,

I concur with you that NSNA is an amazing organization since it is concerned with nursing career paths.  Therefore, the organization plays a crucial role in developing and mentoring future nurses.  To ensure that future nurses are competent to execute their obligations NSNA provides scholarships to undergraduate nursing students to complete their degrees (Brewington & Godfrey, 2020). The nursing agency ensures that future nurses are prepared to be successful.  Since its foundation, NSNA has facilitated most nursing students’ education in various universities.  The AACN is also an important nursing organization that is concerned with nurses’ education levels. The partners with various nursing learning institutions to develop programs that aim at improving nurses’ educational levels (Nunnery et al., 2019).  ASPAN is another nursing organization that allows members to be involved in webinars, seminars, and other engagements that enable them to exchange ideas.  Creating a platform for nurses to interact as well as share insights allows nurses to advance their skills and knowledge. Different reasons justify the interests nurses have with certain nursing organizations.
