In October 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 350 (SB 350), which requires that California: 1) generate half of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, and 2) double the energy efficiency of buildings by 2030 (homes, offices, and factories). Imagine that you have been tasked to present a report to the state that includes a priority list of the five main types of renewable energy sources that should be used to reach the SB 350 goal to generate half of the state’s electricity with renewable sources by 2030. There is a limited amount of money allocated to make the appropriate investments in renewable energy sources, and as a state we will need to be smart in our investment strategy.

Using the five main sources of renewable energy (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind), complete the following questions to make up your priority list report for the state of California:

1. What should be the first priority renewable energy source (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind)? Explain why you chose this energy source as the first priority.

2. What should be the second priority renewable energy source (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind)? Explain why you chose this energy source as the second priority.

3. What should be the third priority renewable energy source (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind)? Explain why you chose this energy source as the third priority.

4. What should be the fourth priority renewable energy source (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind)? Explain why you chose this energy source as the fourth priority.

5. What should be the last priority renewable energy source (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind)? Explain why you chose this energy source as the last priority.
