A genogram (also known as a McGoldrick–Gerson study,^[1] a Lapidus schematic^[1] or a family diagram^[2]) is a pictorial display of a person’s family relationships and medical history. Human relationships are complex, and social workers may find it difficult to keep these important interactions in mind when addressing a client’s needs. Once a social worker creates a genogram for a client, he or she may refer to it when analyzing the client’s situation.
