Eating Healthy and Staying Active: Solution to Americas Obesity Problem In today’s society it is common to be overweight. This causes major health problems. The easy access to junk food and the lack of physical activity has a big hand in this problem. Many Americans do not see this as an issue, they just continue to stuff their faces with junk food. However, 65% of Americans are overweight and are suffering health problems because of it. When we start gaining those pounds it can be very difficult to turn it around. Many of us do nothing physical all day, we just eat.

Well when you eat you are gaining calories and in order to burn off bad calories and keep the good ones you must get active. A good way to do this is taking time every day to do something physically active. Americans should start eating healthy and getting active because eating junk food and doing nothing physically active could cause obesity and have major health risks. Many Americans continuously eat junk food and see no problem with it. It is fast, cheap, and delicious so how could it be bad for you. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The fact is most fast food companies make their food cheap and long lasting. How they accomplish this is by adding many doses of preservatives to their food. This can have bad effects on your health. Continuous consumption of these foods could cause strokes, heart attacks, and diabetes. In order to avoid these health problems it is suggested that you even out your diet to consist of a varity of different food groups. It is ok to have junk food every once in a while but in order to maintain your health you must also eat some fruits and vegetables.

By evening out your diet your body will be able to pull out all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. In American we have no problem accessing food and many of us don’t miss a meal. Tori DeAngelis stated in her article “What’s to Blame for the Surge in Super-Sized Americans? ” that “easy access to junk food… plays a major role in the obesity epidemic” (309). With all the restaurants and fast food it is easy to choose what meal you would like to have. But choosing a meal that is healthy can be difficult. Many restaurants and fast food chains make their food cheap and fast.

This is great if you have no time and want food fast but not so great for your health. Fast food companies are only interested in the sale and not the consumer’s health. In order to find a healthy meal in today’s society you have to make it yourself. For many people this is more difficult than it sounds. Many of us don’t want to put in the time and effort it takes to cook a healthy meal, but it is a necessity for a healthy lifestyle. This lazy attitude toward cooking your own meal is not only affecting our food choices but also the amount of physical activity we need in order to maintain our health.

Although eating healthy plays a big role in our overall health, staying active seals the deal. Physical activity is a necessity in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In America today many of us have stationary jobs that require no physical labors. This makes it harder to meet the physical activity our body needs every day to stay healthy. In order to compensate that lack we must find time every day to do something physical. We need some kind of physical labor to burn off all the food that was consumed that day. It is your responsibility to find the time. As argued in Dynards article “You Want Fries with That? “The food industry isn’t responsible for many factors that contribute to obesity: inactivity and lack of will power” (317). It is that lack of will power to get out and get active that is causing many Americans to become overweight. It can be extremely difficult to lose the weight, but it is easy to keep it from showing up in the first place. DeAngelis states “ a lack of physical activity, such as sit-down jobs with long hours, further increase the odds we’ll put on the pounds” (309) In order to lose those pounds you must find your will power, get outside every day and do something to help your health and your weight.

Maybe get a gym membership, but you must stay consistent, if you do you will find that you can lose the pounds as fast as you gained them. Diet and exercise is everything you need to know when it comes to your health. Eating the right food requires that you make it yourself most of the time, it is important that you take the time to do this. Staying physically active through exercise or play is just as important as your diet. It is critical that you make time every day to get outside and get active.

If America continues to eat unhealthy junk food and continues to stay inactive we will see a spike in heart attacks, stokes, and diabetes.
